/RBA Programs and the Office of Student Engagement organize our annual La Bienvenida in the Fresno State
Peace Garden, a welcoming event for incoming Latino first-time freshmen and transfer students as well as to kick off #HispanicHeritageMonth
This year, Latino students comprise over 50 percent of both groups and overall, it is estimated that Latino students will comprise 52 percent of the total student population this year also.
While the purpose of La Bienvenida is to welcome new Latino students, it is open to everyone. The entire campus community is encouraged to join us in making these and all new Bulldogs feel at home!
The event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. includes welcomes from Dr. Joseph Castro
, University President; Dr. Bob Harper
, interim provost for Academic Affairs; and Dr. Frank Lamas
, vice president for Fresno State Student Affairs and Enrollment Management
. The Consul from Consulmex Fresno
will lead the official #GritoDeDolores
commemorating Mexican Independence Day (Sept. 16) as well as for several Latin American countries.
For entertainment, Mexico's Banda De Guerra, Los Danzantes de Aztlan, California State University, Fresno
and the Fresno State Mariachi student ensemble will perform.
Over 30 information tables representing student organizations, college and university programs participate annually. (Clubs wishing to participate, see your adviser who has been sent contact info).
