The National Lawyers Guild's Legal Observer (LO) Program provides monitoring of law enforcement during protests, demonstrations, and civil disobedience actions to identify, document, and deter unconstitutional conduct by police. LO's take notes, photographs, and videos of police activities to create evidence that could be utilized by attorneys in defense of activists should litigation occur at a later date. LO's are not crowd control, do not participate in the protests, and do not engage with media.
This is the Central Valley chapter's annual LO training. Our legal observers are utilized by Fresno-area activists regularly. Once trained, legal observers will be added to the NLG listserv where call's for LO volunteers are broadcast. First time LOs may be partnered with seasoned participants the first time they observe."
